Chemical Peel
Superficial chemical peels involve the application of a chemical peeling agent to the skin, resulting in destruction of the epidermis. Chemical peels create a controlled wound which the body then heals.
Multiple chemical agents are used such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, citric acid; TCA, salicylic acid etc. are used according to their usages and indications.
Generally chemical peeling is very safe procedures with minimal risk profile. Minimal discomfort and erythema and desquamation following peel are known.
Patients should be aware that series of treatment is required for maximum benefit.
Post peel patients must cool compress, sunscreen/sun avoidance and use creams / lotion as recommended.
